Our Beliefs

Eternity Baptist Church is an autonomous, local New Testament church subject to the control of no other ecclesiastical body. The governance of the church is vested in the body of believers who compose it. However, because we believe that we can do far more together than we can separately, Eternity Baptist Church gladly partners with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baptist Convention of New Mexico, and the Mountain Valley Baptist Association for missions and ministry at the local, state, national, and international levels.
We believe that the Bible (the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments) is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God and is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. We recognize the current Baptist Faith & Message as a brief statement of the doctrines and principles that we believe the Scriptures teach.

Eternity Baptist Church Core Values

Core values are the shared beliefs that hold us at Eternity Baptist Church together as a group. By articulating our values, we ensure all members are committed to the same set of beliefs. The following are our statement of beliefs that are non-negotiable statements of doctrine. This church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of The Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000.

About the Bible:
We believe that the bible is God's inspired word, unchangeable, and without error. We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old Testament and the New Testament are the complete and final canon of the Bible. There is no new revelation. We believe that every word in every part of the Holy Scriptures in the original documents both Old and New Testaments was divinely inspired by God. The Bible is, and will absolutely be, our first and final standard for all we say and do.

The Bible is:

  • Authoritative: Every word of the Bible bears God's own authority
  • Infallible: God's Word never fails
  • Inerrant: The Bible is all truth and contains no errors of any kind
  • Sufficient: We are to rely on God's wisdom found in the Bible rather than the world's wisdom
  • Eternal: God's Word will endure forever

About God:
We believe that God is the loving creator of all that exists, both seen and unseen. God is eternal and perfect. He is holy, knowing all things, and having all power and majesty. God exists as the Trinity in three persons, yet one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God passionately desires a relationship with all persons and to accomplish this, continually invites everyone into a relationship of faith, friendship, learning, and service. He hears and answers prayer and saves us from hell.

About Jesus Christ:
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal and only Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ lived a sinless life. He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross, atoning for our sins as a substitute sacrifice. He was buried, rose bodily again from the dead, and ascended to heaven. He is now in heaven as our High Priest interceding for His people. We believe, according to His promise, that He is coming again to gather His church in a pre-tribulation rapture and that we will reign with Him forever.

About the Holy Spirit:
God, the Holy Spirit, comes to live within all who believe in Jesus Christ. He personally convicts us of our sin so we can return to a proper relationship with God. We receive and access the power of the Holy Spirit by His filling. He teaches, comforts, and empowers us. He gives each follower individual gifts. He seals us in Christ for eternity.

About Salvation:
We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice. Salvation comes to people on the basis of God's grace through their faith in Jesus alone. Through sin, our intended relationship with God is broken and we experience the destructive consequences of separation. We believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We receive the free gift of forgiveness and are spiritually and eternally reborn. We believe, therefore, that those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior will be kept by the power of God forever secure in Him. Those who reject Christ as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God. We further believe salvation results in righteous living, good works, and caring for and reaching out to others.

About the Church:
We believe that the local church membership is composed of born again believers, baptized by immersion in water. We are dependent on God; joined in love, believe in the power of prayer, and under the authority of the Bible. We are united for the purpose of the worship of God, the fellowship of believers, and sharing the message of the Gospel of Christ to others.
